In April 2005, The San Francisco Chronicle carried an Associated Press article on The Gandhi Project after the movie 'Gandhi' was screened (in Arabic) in Palastinian towns, villages, and refugee camps. The Project aims to "encourage peace and tolerance in the region through the promotion of Gandhi's principles and philosophy." Since 2001, Global Catalyst Foundation's Small Tech Grants Program has awarded $130,000 to groups working in 26 developing countries. One group, the Global Education Partnership, has used their grant for an innovative wireless access project in Wundanyi, Kenya.
